Personality awareness

So there's this thing called the "Johari window." Basically you describe yourself using a few words from a set, let aquaintances describe you using the same set, then compare the results for some earth-shocking revelation.

And here's my Johari window -- fill it out if you have time! My Nohari window might be more fun though (thanks Wen for pointing this out) ;). If you're interested in this kind of thing like I am you can make one too, and I'll be sure to fill it out.

Add: The "bad" traits are in the Nohari.
Add: I see two glaring flaws: first, the provided vocabulary is inadequate (Ray pointed this out), especially in describing "bad" qualities; and second, people tend to be laudatory or at least anodyne on these things (note: this is kinda forced by the first flaw). I believe these flaws render this "window" unreliable for personality assessment. You might get a kick out of it though.

Awesome! Me and Kevin picked totally different words to describe you! And apparently totally different from how you described yourself too. :P

Haha, indeed quite humorous, the results are. ;)

You bring up a good point! Perhaps it wasn't in their scope of research, dunno.

It's interesting, but it is odd that there are only "positive" adjectives so to speak. Not even neutral ones like "indifferent", heh.

Anyways the results are interesting, but I can think of some explanations:

Introverted + self-concious + nervous => You're probably not going to tell others majority of the thoughts that comes from introspection/general thinking/daydreaming. Since we don't know about them, we don't associate you with those adjectives. Also you talk quite a bit when you're with us anyways =p I think the only person I'd select "intro/extro" in our group is maybe Rama for extroverted.

Independent is a hard adjective (for me at least) to apply to another person since one usually draws upon interaction with the person to back up one's choices. Since I've never really lived with you, it doesn't really come to mind. On the other hand, you've been living by yourself in Japan for about 8 months now, so "independent" is more salient to yourself. I think the same goes for "adaptable".

Also there are some overlapping types of adjectives, i.e. friendly + helpful => accepting. Or, they are about the same to me.

From a programming perspective I can just click everything and submit, muhahahaha.

There is in fact a version with negative traits instead, called the Nohari Window. You can check mine out at: http://kevan.org/nohari?name=transcendent

Wasn't there a link to the Nohari Window in one of the Johari window pages?

Oh, and are you sure you used to word "anodyne" in the right context here? :P

Ah, don't forget that this test isn't trying to make ANY attempt at measuring how the person REALLY is.. only how others /perceive/ them to be. It is very true that there are traits, such as "independant", that a person might know herself to be, but yet are hard for others to know.

Still, Ambrose, you did bring up a good point by pointing out the implications of the words they used.. .

uchh, half of the nohari adjectives i clicked weren't even all that true...

the nohari is REALLY HARD if you don't know the person very well, isn't it?

Yeah it's hard. I was having a real hard time with Wen's Nohari.
